Celebration as candidates successfully pass NPLQ to become qualified lifeguards
- 13 October 2018
This week, eight candidates were celebrating as they successfully passed their NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) to become fully qualified lifeguards within Link4Life leisure centres.
The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and includes swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ is in sections and all must be successfully passed to attain the qualification.
During the NPLQ assessment at the end of the course, candidates were able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the principles of working as a pool lifeguard and their ability to apply the skills and knowledge in a work-related environment.
The candidates now continue with their professional development as their qualification lasts for 2 years during which they must complete additional hours of training before renewal.
Watch out for members of the team in your local swimming pool – Heywood Sports Village, Middleton Arena and Rochdale Leisure Centre.
