Rochdale AFC Strollers win the first over 65`s Walking Football Tournament
- 12 July 2017
Link4Life recently hosted the first over 65's Walking Football Tournament at Heywood Sports Village. Ten teams from across the country took part in a friendly but very competitive competition.
The Rochdale AFC Strollers progressed to the knock-out stage without losing a game in their group and faced Stalybridge in the semi-final. In a hard fought game, Rochdale found their best form, winning 3-0.
In the final against Widnes the Strollers spurned a number of good chances and it ended goalless. In the penalty shoot-out, Rochdale scored their first two penalties and both Widnes efforts were saved by the Strollers keeper.
Steve Colesby who played in the tournament for the Rochdale AFC Strollers said “It was a great experience for many of the guys who had not played competitive football for many years and some who thought they never would again.”
Link4Life who run the Walking Football programme in partnership with the Stroke Association and Rochdale AFC are always looking for new players of all ages and abilities.
