Community of Deeplish invited to come together at free recycling themed Mela
- 25 September 2014
Rochdale's Broadfield Park will hold an exciting free recycling themed Mela on Saturday 27 September. The event is part of the Recycle for Greater Manchester's Up and Forward LIFE+ project funded by the European Union, and run in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council.
The Mela aims to encourage residents living in Deeplish and Sparth Bottom to recycle more. The event will provide important recycling information, while bringing the community together with a fun and interactive day.
The event is being held on Saturday 27 September 2014, from noon until 3pm, in Broadfield Park around the bandstand area.
There will be a range of free activities on the day including Dhol drumming, Bollywood performances and workshops, recycling games, face painting, henna tattoos, crafts, a bouncy castle and cookery demonstrations.
In addition there will be a Bollywood themed recycling music video being filmed on the day, where the film crew will be encouraging members of the community to take part.
Residents will also get the opportunity to report any problems they have with their waste and recycling to a member of Rochdale Borough Council. Additionally local partners such as Rochdale Environmental Action Group, Rochdale Borough Housing, Link4Life, Deeplish Community Youth Workers and the local PCSO will have stalls at the event.
The Up and Forward team would like to recruit local volunteers to help during the event, if you are interested in taking part please contact Zoe on firstname.lastname@example.org.
