Active adults celebrate one year on
- 24 September 2014
The Link4Life activ8teme programme was one year old last week. To celebrate the event, over 175 people gathered, along with the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Carol Wardle, to take part in a glittering evening that included Bollywood and Salsa taster sessions, a Bucks Fizz reception and activ8teme cupcakes.
Members of the activ8teme team presented highlights of the programme's achievements of this Sport England, Lottery funded project that has seen over 2,000 people get back into exercise or take part for the first time in eight major sports including badminton, swimming, football and walking.
Sarah Shard, activ8teme Co-ordinator said, "Our birthday celebration event was a huge success. We were so pleased with the turnout. To see so many of our activ8teme members join us to celebrate our first year shows that our project is well thought of in the community. With approximately 70 sessions per week to choose from, there is something for everyone. We look forward to another successful year ahead".
activ8teme is a 3 year programme, funded by Sport England until May 2016 which offers adults the opportunity to participate low cost, pay as you go sessions which are fun, sociable and many are set in local community venues.
Mike Diaper, Sport England's Director of Community Sport said: "Over the last year, the activ8teme project has been encouraging inactive people to be active by offering them a range of sporting activities. By listening to the feedback, they have been able to tailor the offer to meet the needs of those taking part. It just great to see our investment being well used and the project working."
