Natalie Giannikitzakis: Act Naturally
- 22 September 2014
Act Naturally is an exhibition of 18 pencil drawings that explores body language and how it can be influenced by external factors, such as in this case – being photographed. Two photographs were taken of each subject. The first photograph was taken without the subjects awareness to capture the natural body language, the second photograph captured the posed body language.
Speaking about the show Natalie said: "It was interesting how when each subject was asked to pose, they had their own ingrained 'performance'. By drawing the subject and decontextualising the image, it allowed a greater focus to be placed upon the subject's behaviour and body language. It also allowed a better comparison to be made between a forced pose and a natural pose.
This exhibition gives the viewer the opportunity to re-evaluate their own body language and think about how they portray themselves in different situations and if they act naturally."
Act Naturally is on show until 8 November 2014. Gallery One is the community gallery at Touchstones Rochdale and is dedicated to exhibitions by people and groups who live or work in the borough of Rochdale. The exhibitions in Gallery One are very varied, reflecting the range of interests and talent that exist in the borough. Proposals are welcome from individuals, groups and organisations and are reviewed and selected by an independent community panel.
